Gus Romano

Prior to co-founding Quanta, Gus was the Change & Strategy director at CAF (Charities Aid Foundation), the largest independent foundation in the UK, where he led the biggest strategic investment in the 80 years of history of the organization. Before joining CAF he worked as Strategy & Change Director at Save the Children US, where he was responsible for overseeing the rollout of its 5-year strategic plan in 34 countries and the inception work of the federation’s first global strategy. He also worked as a change manager at International Secretariat, where he spearheaded the formation of Save the Children in Myanmar, Sudan, Angola and Mozambique, co-developed assessment mechanisms for all 29 head offices of the federation, and new methodologies to attract new funders to underfunded countries such as Malawi and Tanzania. And before joining Save, he worked as the Managing Director of Lewa Enterprises, in Kenya, where he led the turnaround of the commercial activities of a social enterprise providing jobs, health, microcredit and education to close to 50 thousand people and protecting highly endangered species in northern Kenya. Previously, Gus worked for 10 years as in-house and external consultant in the corporate sector for the likes of PriceWaterhouseCoopers and 3M. He is also the founder of Unheard UK and Para Entender Direito projects.

Gus holds a MA in Political Science from UFMG, an MBA from London Business School, and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, where he also received the Dean’s Leadership Award and the Law School scholarship. He is currently a board member of Pepal, a social enterprise linking leaders from the corporate sector and from NGOs via educational institutions.

Kim van Niekerk

Kim has spent over 8 years working across the corporate and third sector and uses her experience in fundraising and management to advise corporate foundations and CSR teams on strategic partnership with social and environmental initiatives.

Kim was a founding Director of The Foundation for Social Improvement, an innovative organisation building the capacity of the charitable sector by delivering free expert fundraising and communications training. By the end of 2009 the Foundation had worked with over 400 not for profit organisations and continues to make a positive impact on their work, supporting thousands of lives each day.

Before starting The FSI, Kim worked with the UKs largest businesses, high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations as a Campaign Manager for the NSPCC’s FULL STOP Campaign. In under three years, Kim co-ordinated lead gifts and major events in the UK and Russia, to raise over £16 million for the protection of children.

Kim is a regular facilitator and speaker at conferences and has trained over 500 individuals in relationship management and strategic communication skills. Kim is also a Fellow of the RSA and a trustee of Sail 4 Cancer.



John Grounds

John Grounds held different directorships at the NSPCC since 2002. John's earlier career took in both commercial and charity roles. Prior to the NSPCC, he was director of campaigns and communications at medical charity Action Medical Research for 5 years, responsible for communications at Barnardo's for 3 years, and the International PR Manager of The Body Shop for 5 years, working closely with Dame Anita Roddick. Over these 22 years his teams have won over 100 awards across all aspects of marketing and communications.

He is also a trustee of the Foundation for Social Improvement and a member of the board of CharityComms, the professional development body for communicators in the not-for-profit sector. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Blue Rubicon. John is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), a former member of the board of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a regular member of judging panels for industry award schemes.

He is the author of a book, London: A Living Guide as well as numerous articles in both professional and mainstream publications. He is a regular speaker at conferences and events in both the not for profit and wider industry sectors.

Born in Braintree, Essex, John studied in Cambridge and Reading universities.
